The United Express turboprop aircraft that have ferried passengers to and from Newark and Washington Dulles airports are making their last scheduled trips Sunday.

Another of the US Regionals that has undergone a dramatic fleet transition is Cleveland-based CommutAir, which has had United as a minority shareholder for a couple of years now.

CommutAir, a United Express® carrier, received approval from the FAA for its Safety Management System “SMS” Under USDOT FAA Order 8000.3698. The massive undertaking to achieve a fully approved SMS program was facilitated by the CommutAir Safety Team, and led by John Darke, Director of Safety.

CommutAir, a United Express® carrier, reached an agreement with the Air Line Pilots Association to pay its First Officers at Captain scale pay rates one year after their completion of initial training. Under the agreement, CommutAir will also begin paying quarterly retention bonuses to its Captains.

CommutAir, a Vermont-based regional airline carrier operating as United Express, announced today that it plans to consolidate its administrative functions at Great Northern Corporate Center in North Olmsted, where the company expects to operate its corporate headquarters and expand its administrative staff.

United Express carrier CommutAir announced that it would double the size of its Washington-Dulles Flight Training Center and expand its Albany, New York Maintenance Hangar campus.

CommutAir has appointed Robert L. Rinne as Managing Director of Materials and Sourcing to be based in Albany, New York.

CommutAir will add another 21 ERJ145s to the 40 it planned flying as a United Express carrier by 2019. The airline is retiring 37- and 50-seat turboprops, but will be tripling its ERJ fleet in just a few short years. Tripling support of a fleet type in a short time can be challenging for maintenance planners.

CommutAir announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with United Airlines to add 21 Embraer ERJ145 aircraft to its existing contract to fly 40 jet aircraft under the United Express brand. These jets will replace Bombardier Dash-8 turboprop aircraft with planned retirements by January 2018.

CommutAir has appointed Jeffrey “Jeff” Harris as its Director of Flight Operations Training. He will be based in the North Olmsted Corporate Office.
