Managing Director of Materials & Sourcing, Sergio Aleman

AT COMMUTEAIR, WE HAVE GREAT PEOPLE WITH GREAT STORIES TO SHARE.

Meet Sergio Aleman, our inspiring Managing Director of Materials and Sourcing at CommuteAir. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Aleman’s fascination with aviation ignited at an early age, despite his small town lacking an airport.

“As a kid, I was an avid reader. My local library was my haven, and I often found myself immersed in books about airplanes,” Aleman recalls.

By the age of 15, he was determined to turn that passion into a career, leading him to study Aerospace Engineering at Instituto Politecnico Nacional in Mexico City.

After graduating, Sergio landed an internship with Aeromexico, where he quickly made his mark as an engineer specializing in flight control and hydraulic systems for DC9, MD80, and DC10 aircraft. And his hard work paid off.

“I spent nine years at Aeromexico and was promoted almost every three years,” he shares. “From engineering roles to leading the Structural Repairs Shop, I ultimately became responsible for Aeromexico’s MRO (Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul) operations for ‘C’ Checks.

Aleman’s career journey then took him to a charter airline as Director of Maintenance before returning to regional airline, Aeromexico Connect. In December 2012, a call from Embraer changed everything.

“They offered me a job and sponsored my move to the United States in 2013,” he explained.

His time at Embraer lasted until 2020, when he was laid off due to the covid-19 global pandemic. But fate intervened when he connected with CommuteAir VP of Maintenance, Lon Zeigler, and soon thereafter, joined the C5 family to manage the Materials department.

In addition to his successful career journey, another proud milestone for Aleman came on June 15, 2024, when he became a United States citizen. Today, he leads our Materials and Sourcing team, bringing his wealth of experience and passion for aviation to the role.

Aleman’s journey is a testament to the power of dreams, perseverance, and the transformative impact of a good book.
