Curt Levere, IAD Maintenance Apprentice

AT COMMUTEAIR, WE HAVE GREAT PEOPLE WITH GREAT STORIES TO SHARE.

Meet Curt Levere, a dedicated aircraft maintenance apprentice at CommuteAir’s Washington Dulles (IAD) base, who joined the company in February 2023. His journey into aviation began over a decade ago as a customer service agent for Southwest Airlines. After a brief venture into the fitness industry as a certified personal trainer, he transitioned into physical therapy, working as a rehabilitation tech at various clinics.

Realizing he missed the world of aviation, Curt returned as a line service technician for Signature Aviation. It was there that he developed an interest in aircraft maintenance, encouraged by mechanics who recognized his potential. Seeking further education, he considered the University of District of Columbia’s A&P program, but the opportunity to apply for CommuteAir’s apprenticeship came just in time.

“The idea of earning while learning and gaining experience up close and personal was the opportunity I needed,” he said.

Despite no prior maintenance experience, Curt embraced the challenge, excited to learn about aircraft systems and operations. He views the apprenticeship as a critical step towards achieving his goal of becoming a licensed A&P mechanic while gaining hands-on experience.

“The team at IAD has been incredibly supportive, helping me showcase my potential as a mechanic,” he says. “From the managers to the AMTs to the other apprentices, we all have each other’s backs.”

Curt’s aspirations extend beyond maintenance. With a vision of one day building engines from the ground up, he emphasizes the importance of curiosity and humility in the always-evolving aviation industry.

“Always ask questions and never stop learning,” he advises.

In his free time, Curt enjoys training aspiring fighters, blending his passion for boxing with his love for fitness. Grateful for the opportunities at CommuteAir, he reflects on the supportive environment, the connections he’s made, and the family-oriented company culture.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” he shares.

As he continues his journey towards his A&P, Curt remains committed to his important role as an aviation maintenance apprentice and contributing to the success of CommuteAir, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of everyone who rides on one of the Company’s ERJ145 aircraft.
