CommutAir Receives Final Approval for Electronic Flight Bags

NORTH OLMSTED, OH (July 3, 2019) — CommutAir, a United Express carrier (UAL), today announced it has received final regulatory approval for its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) program which enables its flight crews to access manuals and navigation charts electronically on the flight deck.

The implementation of EFBs for pilots is part of CommutAir’s commitment to establishing a modern technology infrastructure to support the company’s rapid growth.

“With the approval of EFBs, CommutAir’s pilots are utilizing latest-generation technology to enhance safety and efficiency onboard our aircraft,” explained Captain David Fitzgerald, Vice President of Flight Operations. “We want to thank all our pilots who have participated actively in the EFB validation, and for the efforts of CommutAir’s flight operations, IT, and leadership teams throughout the certification process.”

The implementation of EFBs for pilots provides a robust technology platform for future efficiency initiatives as it moves toward a paperless flight deck.

“We look forward to leveraging this proven technology platform for future enhancements. We have been building out our internal platforms to enable the EFB’s with electronic flight releases and real-time flight information, allowing for seamless communication between our flight, dispatch and maintenance teams,” said Radha Iyer, Chief Technology Officer. “Now that we have the EFBs, we can launch these applications over the next several months as part of our strategy to modernize our workflows.”
